The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved an immediate disbursement of $206 million in emergency financial assistance to Sri Lanka. This critical funding aims to stabilize the island's balance of payments following the devastating impact of Cyclone Ditwah earlier this month.

IMF mission chiefs highlighted that the funds will be directed toward reconstructing essential infrastructure and providing a safety net for the most vulnerable sectors. "This facility is designed to catalyze further international support," an IMF spokesperson stated in Colombo. Economists predict this move will restore investor confidence, projecting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows to rebound to $507 million by the end of 2025.
